I watched this film over the weekend and I was blown away. I expected the film to be decent after reading some of the reviews but struggled to think how a movie labelled as a ‘Swedish vampire film’ could entertain so much. I am ashamed of my preconceptions. I will never start watching a film with any prejudice again. Without giving too much away the story is about a young 12 year old boy called Oskar looking for friendship but is constantly bullied at school. However, it looks as though his wish has come true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him with her father. Coinciding with Eli’s arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. Whilst these events go on, a subtle romance has blossomed between Oskar and Eli, and she gives him the strength and confidence to fight back against his bullies.

What surprised me most of all was the talent of these young actors. Not at one point was I aware that these kids were acting. I was totally engrossed in these characters and this world. The title of the film at first I thought was a strange one, however after watching it seems really appropriate. This a great and at times creepy film that no one should miss. But do not mistake it for a horror. It is much more than that. A must see!
